Famed interior designer Darryl Carter recently announced an upcoming partnership with Thomasville Furniture. While Thomasville has always specialized in opulent style and lasting trends, we should take a look at previous works from Mr. Carter to learn what to expect in the forthcoming whole home collection.
Thomasville's New Traditional Furniture
Darryl Carter has built his extensive portfolio around mixing classic elements with traditional and transitional decor. While this isn't a prominent design in most modern day decor, this hallmark aesthetic has a captivating quality that Thomasville is banking will drive sales in their showrooms. The new Thomasville line contains all of the key features that create the Darryl Carter signature look are all present; you will find a delicate balance of opposite polarity furniture and decor and anachronous selections in accent pieces. Carter's primary themes pair odd characteristics to create a look that is unique, but not eccentric. Expect to find old mixed with new, polished surfaces contrasting antiqued finishes, and even cheap decor mixed with the extravagant.
This is one of the many moves Thomasville has made this year to improve profits in a struggling furniture economy. Parent company Furniture Brands International has been struggling to preserve their current business model. The Thomasville brand alone endured over 50 job eliminations this year, so there is a lot of hope that the Darryl Carter by Thomasville collection will boost sales and prevent the need for any further downsizing.
Fortunately, the company's new direction focuses on their Thomasville showrooms and improving the overall customer experience. Their most successful lines, inspired by Ernest Hemingway and Humphrey Bogart, laid the groundwork for Thomasville's expanding furniture collections. Darryl Carter, having already designed a furniture collection for Neiman Marcus and being featured multiple times in Elle Decor, Metropolitan Home, and Southern Living, seems like the best step forward for the furniture giant.
