Man caves are a rising trend in home furnishing. Put simply, a man cave is a haven for male-centric entertainment and productivity. The Billiard's tables and sports memorabilia that once belonged in game rooms and converted garages is now being included in a much broader furniture segment.
What belongs in a Man Cave?
Man caves are theme rooms by nature, and usually invest heavily in furniture and electronics. While man caves vary according to the tastes of their creator, sports, gaming consoles, televisions, and bar-like amenities seem to be common features. Popular purchases are poker and pool tables, home theater equipment, and wall art. The rooms often have a distinct theme that determines the type of decor should be used. NASCAR drivers, sports franchises, and leisure brands like Ducati and Jack Daniels are often prevalent, as well as a risque selection of wall art that would never get a nod of approval anywhere else in the house.
Man caves are all about comfort and solidarity, so style often takes a back seat to convenience and usability. The inhabitant's activity of choice may be having drinks with the guys, escaping into a video-game induced daydream, or in the case of a garage man cave, rebuilding a custom engine from scraps. Make sure that the room never interferes with enjoyment, even if that means enduring an unsightly, sprawling workbench or a cluttered bar countertop. Like hot wings and barbecue ribs, man caves are lots of fun but rarely tidy.
How do I show off my Man Cave?
Like virtually every form of male recreation, man caves are competitive by nature. While showing your brilliant ideas and awesome purchases to your neighbors and friends is fun, many men have chosen to show off their man caves on a global level. Websites like IReport.com and even the popular payment portal Bill Me Later created a contest site for men to plead for $10,000 worth of man cave stuff.
The editors of Furniture Decorating know that you have a need to show off your man cave to the world, and maybe even "borrow" ideas from other Furniture Decorators. We created a special man cave section in the My Place Showcase to help you in this endeavor. Create a furniture decorating account and upload your man cave photos right away!

Alright
It's good to see that we have at least a little testosterone on FD. I love the ambiguous reference to "risqué wall art". There was a lot of that in my father's garage, lol. Now if we can just get a review on HD home theater setups and indoor grills.
I guess that's one way to look at it
I've found that a lot of these rooms end up becoming the elephant graveyard of a man's bachelor stuff. Unsightly furniture and tacky decor are the unfortunate status quo.

Bars
Every good man cave needs a bar. I just finished building mine. Now I am looking for good bar stools. I ran across some online at http://www.familyleisure.com/Bar-Stools. I like shopping for furniture online because it saves me time and I can see more choices. Before I buy any though, I want to sit in them and feel how well constructed they are.
