Ivan Dotzinska may represent the ideal businessman in the Furniture Industry. His company, Quality Components of Tampa Bay, supplies the entire southeast U.S. with custom closets and modular furniture. His attention to product quality, honest business practices, and sustainable furniture design are an inspiration for business owners in these challenging economic times... and that's before considering the challenges he's faced to get here.
The Story of Quality Components
Dotzinska, born in Bulgaria, lead an interesting life in Europe. Spending years playing and coaching professional volleyball, he eventually lead a team to 2nd place in the European championship cup. Working in the customs department for many years in Bulgaria, eventually working his way to the head of the department, Dotzinska desired an ever brighter life for his children. After careful consideration, Ivan and his family decided to make the move to America.
Dotzinska immediately began working for a small wood fabrication factory in Tampa Bay. In a scant 7 years, Ivan would go on to become CEO and part owner of the company that would eventually become Quality components of Tampa Bay.
The Advantages of Doing What's Right
What is amazing about Quality Components is that all of their product, materials, and labor is from right here in America. Many of Dotzinska's competitors, like IKEA and California Closets, source their product from India and Asia, where labor costs are cheaper. By keeping 100% of production in the United States, not only does Dotzinska increase domestic jobs, but he also greatly reduces the carbon footprint associated with creating the custom pieces he builds.
Speaking of earth-friendly, Dotzinska shifted his entire product line to formaldehyde-free melamine, a smart move that may be pushed into law in the next few years. Combine this with a dedication to full custom work with just a 3 week turn-around, and Quality Components seems almost too good to be true.
"We're seeing this kind of activity in an economic downturn. Just imagne where we will be in 1 or 2 years," says Dotzinska of current business. "We're always eager to share business with other companies. We bid honestly for jobs, and find good people to work with to increase [business] activity for everybody."
We'll keep close watch over Dotzinska and Quality Components, and continue to bring you profiles of American innovators.
