Steve Pepevies began in art, and excelled in that segment. It didn't take him long to identify with the huge potential behind being a manufacturers representative for a wide variety of home products. "We specialize in home accessories," said Papevies of SAT. "We're not into knick-knacks and chachskis, we're getting storefront owners away from displaying items on shelves and into creating environments that sell the whole package".
Every piece of the Southern Accessories Today showroom has been painted, decorated, and lit to evoke a specific mood. With a large emphasis on music and color, Southern Accessories Today shows retail storeowners a way of creating funtional display that sells. Papevies goes as far as to hand pick the music playlist for his showroom each day to adjust to the time of day and day of the week.
"The consumer knows no difference [between gift items and home accessories]," said Papevies. "Careful attention to presentation, be it color, music, or choice of accessories, creates an atmosphere that adds dimension".
Southern Accessories Today: Quality Manufacturers
Southern Accessories today works closley with their manufacturers and reps to create a winning team of supply professionals. Finding the right products and people isn't always easy. "When someone wants to come on board, they have to do temporary [showrooms] first. I have to know, do they ship their product on time, does the product sell through, what kind of volume are they doing? These are all important questions. I'll be honest, most vendors have 90 days to 6 months with me... truthfully you can tell with a lot of factories in that length of time. Today, my factories, mys customers, and my reps expect me to know [the product quality] right away... It's all about finding that mix of products and people".

The photo for the front page is awesome, but that is a ton of brown. I think I'd feel uncomfortable hosting a dinner party in that setting without worrying that my guests think I'm crazy. I don't think I totally understand what Southern Accessories Today does? Is it like a furniture brokerage?
Our pictures came out very saturated...
... the warm lighting at AmericasMart made it difficult to impossible to capture things in their true color. You can tell where we had to tone down the third picture in a huge way. Bear in mind that a lot of showrooms are displaying accent furniture- tons of accent furniture that all cries out for your attention. Palecek was an example of this. I think the point is to take the showroom in as a whole, but to focus only on the pieces that you want to take home.
