Something important to remember about custom granite countertops is that granite is fragile. Because of this, granite is seamed to prevent it from cracking under its own weight. You'll recognize an expert granite installer by asking about their breakage rate and maximum slab size.
We have granite counters and really enjoy them. I would have opted for another cheaper surface, but my wife really wanted them. While they do enhance the look of the kitchen, you have to instruct your kids never to climb up on the counters or the granite might break under the pressure.
I suppose we could have had the underneath reinforced.
Does anyone know of people having their granite counters reinforced?
Mmm... are they really affordable? I am looking for a prefab granite for my new house. but first I need a consultant.
