I read an article somewhere about a crazy Sub-Zero refrigerator with an air purifier. Their website actually lists a lot of models that already have this technology. Apparently, the system scrubs ethylene gas and bacteria from your refrigerator's air, making the food last much longer. I am renovating my kitchen, so a built-in refrigerator is certianly a possibility, but a Sub-Zero is about $1400 more than something comperable from LG. Is the technology really worth it?

Really depends

These refrigerators are built with a high-end consumer in mind. If you buy a lot of exotic foods, like specialized cheeses and vegetables, this could be a great fit for you. Because of the special atmospheric control, your foods can be stored in a Sub-Zero refrigerator without needing to be covered. Also, because the cooling system and ventilation is on top of the fridge instead of in the back, the storage space is much more useful than the 37" deep conventional fridge, or the super-shallow counter-depth refrigerators by LG.

If your grocery shopping is a bit more basic, the $1400 is probably better spent on your yearly food purchases. Sticking to a decent quality French-door refrigerator with a solid freezer bin might be your best bet.
