As the temperature rises, so does the cost of cooling your home, especially if you use an air conditioner. Obviously, the best way to keep your home cool during the summer is to use an air conditioner to keep the temperature down, but there are other options that don’t raise your energy bill quite significantly. Air conditioners may offer tempting temporary relief from summer heat, but they’re a huge environmental no-no. You may be cooling your home, but the fossil fuels you’re burning in the process are only making your summers hotter. This summer, leave the air conditioner in storage and try these environmentally-friendly alternatives instead. Fundamentally, the idea is to minimize sources of heat and remove built-up heat from inside.

I think its better to insulate your house with less heat absorbing material like wood or thermocol and use the air conditioner to keep the temperature down.
thanks!
Keep the shades and curtains closed of the day, make sure you have flipped the switch on your fan to push air down toward the floor (cool air rises to the ceiling) and wait to open your windows each day until the sun is no longer shining on that side of the house--that way the heat doesn't boil into the room through the open window---but don't make the mistake of not opening them at all as the air will quickly become stiffling without AC.
Keeping a bedroom cool in summer is a hard task. You should close all your curtains and doors of your bedroom during day time. In the evening open the doors and put on your AC or fans so that hot air flows out of your room.
well colors can make your bed room looks cool in summer, proper selection of the colors of mattress, bed sheets and wall, including the things that present in your bedroom. instead of choosing dark colors like red and black try to use light colors like mint green or other light colors the will not stray in your eye.
Every body wants cool room during summer. In such practice, people try several methods but can't succeed. Use less heat absorbing materials in your room. Always keep put your curtains closed during day and use exhaust fan to get some relief from hot air.
