I guess this is an experience as well as a question.
While I was living in Oregon this last year...
Last December I purchased a full mattress. When I went bedroom furniture shopping I found that I couldn't find a set for an adult any less than queen size. So I purchased a queen set and upgraded my mattress, which cost $100 extra for the mattress. The upgrade was a one time only deal, they wouldn't replace it again.
I guess I should have been tipped off when the furniture store couldn't come up with an end table for it.
When they delivered it and they put the bed together, we found that the frame was so long that I couldn't walk between the footboard and the dresser. There was no other way to set them up because of the design of the apartment's bedroom, AND the frame was at least 8" too long for my mattress! Of course that was not the case at the store, so I had no idea what I was getting into.
The guys who set it up tried to make it sound like it was no big deal, that people were using extra bulky comforters, and that was why manufacturers were making them that way. They also tried to tell me I could put the mattress down at the foot of the bed so the pillows would camouflage the excess. Yeah, like I really hate leaning up against my headboard while I'm sitting in bed. >:(
Well, I like my mattress, can't afford another, like to lean against my headboard, and I like my comforter! When I called the store and spoke with the manager, he refused to take the pieces back unless I settled for in-store credit. After that experience, there was no WAY I was ever going to buy from them again.
So, is it true? Do they really make mattresses that much longer in queen size? The width is correct. I didn't think to measure the length, so I'm not sure if they got the rails mixed up with king supports. Of course I made them take it down and stash it behind my couch. I've tried selling it on Craig's List. It's truly beautiful, and never been used. Now I'm considering offering the whole set and just buying another. Strolling by a furniture store today made me remember, and prompted me to look up forums to answer my questions.
Thanks for any help.
